Summary
Dr. J is burgled and the cops are unable to help. One of the
items stolen was the key component for a new machine Dr. J
is building. The machine can realign the molecules in something to create
water. It is the crux of his career. Unless he gets the
component back within three days, at which time his backers
are visting, his career will be ruined. Andrew decides that finding the key is a job for Ultraman.
Later, while running an errand for his mother, he encounters a shoplifter
stealing a radio. He flies off to apprehend the shoplifter and
thereby comes to the aid of the pretty damsel shop-clerk from
whom the radio was stolen. The shoplifter's bike spins out on
a slick patch, and Andrew super-speeds to save the perp from an
oncoming car.
The shoplifter introduces himself as Tony, a member of
a gang called the Apache Devils. Tony brings Andrew into the
gang as payment for his saved life. Andrew then discovers that
the Devils are the ones who broke into Dr. J's lab. He decides
to join the gang in order to recover the component.
Dr. J, at Stephanie's bequest, tries to talk Andrew out of
joining the gang. To which Andrew responds, "Dangerous?
What can happen to me? I'm invulnerable." The talk is
unsuccessful.
Then, after the gang breaks into a parking garage to destroy the
cars, Andrew stands up to the gang leader, Rock, when told
to vandalise the car. The defense of words turns into a defense
of fists, during which Andrew tries to be a superhero right out
of the comics by maintaining a running dialogue of witty
comments. Andrew naturally wins, and finds himself
the new leader: Trial by Combat. One of the spoils is Dr. J's
abrigater.
He tries to preach a new way to the Devils, which
fails, but he makes a friend in Tony and manages to return the
abrigater just in time for Dr. J. to make a successful demonstration
to the backers.
