Summary Dr. J is driving in the country, looking for something. Classical music is playing softly in the background from his car radio. He consults some written directions, then turns onto a bridge. A sedan pulls out from nowhere and starts tailgating him, honking its horn and generally being a nuisance. The sedan signals for Dr. J to pull over. Back in the neighborhood, Mrs. Shellenbach and Erin are raking leaves. There's snow on the ground, and both of them are bundled up. They fill up a bag with leaves and Mrs. Shellenbach has Erin help her lift it over the fence so they can dump the contents onto Dr. J's property. His tree, his leaves. Erin asks to rest for awhile, then comments on feeling warm. Mrs. Shellenbach is all set to dismiss it as childish complaints until she notices the spots on Erin's face: Chickenpox. Which it later turns out Mrs. Shellenbach also has. School is over for the day, and Andrew and Kirk have relocated to Dr. J's house where Kirk is hoping to have a party that night. Dr. J will never know. Andrew is worrying -- Dr. J is 11 minutes late returning back from his excursion up north to find a cabin in the woods. His experiment is going unmonitored and he neglected to set his VCR to tape Nova. The worry leads to some snooping around, and Andrew eventually finds a business card underneath Dr. J's desk. The card has blood on it. Dr. J, as it turns out, is in a high-tech lab with another scientist. Dr. J is able to sneak a phone call out to Andrew, but he no more than says, "Andrew, I need your help," when he is disconnected. More snooping around the lab reveals a map and a relief copy of Dr. J's directions. Andrew goes in search, eventually finding Dr. J's car abandoned by the side of the road. When he arrives back, there's an email for him from Dr. J, which Andrew intreprets as an SOS. He traces the email back to the Quantum Research Facility. They sneak their way into the facility, successfully hopping fences and avoiding guards until Kirk first finds an electrified fence, and then the dogs find him. Dr. J and the other scientist come running out to save Kirk from being Alpo. It turns out they were involved in a top secret international project between the US and the USSR to design a space-station -- which the boys just jeopardized. Dr. J never was in any danger.
