Sliders is a scifi/adventure series revolving around four individuals who travel across dimensions to alternate versions of our Earth. For more information on the show, consult the website Earth Prime for the Sliders FAQ
"Fanfic" consists of original creative work including short stories, poems, novels, or songs that use the characters and/or settings of a TV show, movie, or book series. They are called "fanfiction" or "fanfic" for short.
Good fanfic is like having new episodes of your favorite show. It's also unrestricted by budgets, actors, sets, or formulas, so it can do things the show never could.
A lot of people who watch a show or a movie get ideas for stories they'd like to see. Some of them decide not to wait, and write the stories themselves. Others do it because they don't like the direction of the show or the format and decide to write the show the way they feel it should be.
Technically, fanfic is a violation of copyrights. But as long as no one tries to sell or otherwise profit from the fanfic they write, most shows don't have a problem with it. Fanfiction can serve as free publicity for TV shows and movies. Some shows, like Sliders and Babylon 5, actively encourage fanfiction.

A serial is a continuing storyline written by an author or authors that extends over more than one story.
What serials exist in Sliders fanfic?
1) The Fifth Slider: Revolving around a fifth member of the Sliders cast, a deaf teenager named David.
2) The Maian Connection: Revolving around a fifth member of the Sliders cast, a young woman from an oppressed world named Maia.
3) Infinite Slides: A fan-written season picking up where the third season left off.
4) Sliders: the Fourth Season Project: Another fan-written season picking up where the third season left off.
A crossover is a fanfiction story that combines characters or settings from one TV show, movie, or book with another. An example would be a story in which the Sliders wind up on the starship Enterprise and encounter the cast of Star Trek. Crossovers can be enjoyable and fun to fans of the shows or movies being crossed. But some of those who don't like one or more of the crossed stories or aren't familiar with them will sometimes not like the crossover.
